The shape of our year
Discovering Minds follows the Toronto District School Board calendar for term dates and holidays, with a few additions of our own. Exact dates for each school year are confirmed in July and sent to families directly.

First day of school
The school year runs from early September to the end of June, followed by the summer programme.

Statutory and civic holidays
The school is closed on all statutory and civic holidays, including Thanksgiving, Family Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Victoria Day, Canada Day and the August civic holiday.

Professional development days
The school closes for teacher professional development, including the annual CCMA, CAMT and AMI conference. Dates are announced well in advance.

Winter concert
The school stays open. Children are collected early on concert day. Location announced each year.

December holiday closure
The school closes for two weeks over the holiday season, reopening in the first week of January.

The school is closed for the TDSB mid-winter break.

The school stays open and families are invited in.

Observation days
Parents are invited to sit quietly at the edge of the classroom and watch a normal working morning. Elementary and Casa are scheduled on separate days.

A one-to-one conversation with your child’s teacher about the year. No classes that day.

The ten-month programme ends. The summer programme continues without a break.

The school stays open all summer, bookable monthly or weekly.

The school closes for roughly a week before the new school year begins.
We follow the TDSB
Term dates, statutory holidays and the March break follow the Toronto District School Board calendar, which keeps us in step with siblings at local public schools.
Ten months, plus summer
The main programme is a ten-month commitment from September to June. The summer programme runs straight on through July and August without a break, booked separately.
Dates can move
Professional development days and events are occasionally rescheduled. When that happens we give families as much notice as we can.
Come to an observation day
Twice a year we invite parents to sit quietly at the edge of the classroom and watch a working morning. It is the single most persuasive thing we do, and it carries on unchanged in the new building.
